Grosse Pointe Park will celebrate the reopening of Charlevoix Street on Thursday, Oct. 29, with a ribbon cutting and family activities following months of reconstruction in the city's business district.
The free event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on Charlevoix Street between Alter and Beaconsfield avenues, according to the city's official event calendar.
The celebration will include live entertainment, trick-or-treating and other activities for families. The city's Charlevoix Streetscape project page confirms the road has reopened to traffic.
The reconstruction replaces the traditional street layout with a curbless design intended to make the business corridor more accessible to pedestrians while accommodating vehicles.
Plans also call for decorative lighting, landscaping and green infrastructure, along with improvements to underground utilities.
The project is a partnership between the city and its Tax Increment Finance Authority. Planning and community engagement began in 2023 and continued through 2024.
According to the city's April 2026 pre-construction presentation, work was scheduled to begin April 20, with the street reopening in September and substantial completion in October.
Some finishing work remains. The same construction schedule calls for final restoration in May 2027.
The city says it received a $1.8 million State of Michigan grant toward construction of the project.
Charlevoix Street serves a mix of businesses and residences in Grosse Pointe Park. The redesign is intended to improve the streetscape and create a more welcoming environment for people walking through the commercial district.
Residents and visitors can find event details on the city's calendar.
