Grosse Pointe South's field hockey season ended Monday, Oct. 26, with a 3-1 loss to Detroit Country Day in the regional final at South Athletic Stadium in Grosse Pointe Farms.

Hannah Agnone scored the Blue Devils' lone goal, with Mia Rouleau providing the assist. Goalkeeper Harriet Kowalski made five saves.

Grosse Pointe South Athletics reported a final season record of 15-5, including 11 shutout victories.

The loss came after South defeated Country Day 2-1 during the regular season on Sept. 2. The regional final reversed that result, sending Country Day into the state semifinals.

Blue Devils shut out North in semifinal

South reached the regional championship game with an 8-0 victory over crosstown rival Grosse Pointe North on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The school's official semifinal result confirms the shutout at South Athletic Stadium.

Aubrey Lindow and Wells Webber each scored twice in that game, while Therese Carron, Mia Rouleau, Evie Baer and Hannah Agnone added goals, according to the team's game recap.

Karissa Jelinski contributed two assists, and Kowalski recorded the shutout.

The result followed another decisive postseason victory, an 8-0 win against University Liggett on Oct. 19.

Eleven shutouts highlight season

The Blue Devils' defensive record was a defining feature of their fall campaign.

South recorded shutout victories over opponents including Grosse Pointe North, West Bloomfield, Pinckney, Novi, Cranbrook Kingswood, Mercy, University Liggett, Bloomfield Hills and Rockford.

The team also faced several challenging nonconference opponents during the regular season, including Dexter, Oak Park-River Forest, Skyline and Saline.

The Blue Devils opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Dexter on Aug. 20 but followed with a 2-1 victory at Country Day in early September.

That earlier victory gave South a favorable result against the team it would eventually meet in the regional championship.

In the rematch, Country Day prevailed 3-1, ending South's postseason run.

The Blue Devils finished with 15 wins and 11 shutouts, according to their athletic department's final season summary.
