Twenty artists are sharing wall space inside Grosse Pointe Congregational Church to mark a decade of the congregation's arts ministry.
The exhibition, titled "The Gift of Creativity: Celebrating a Decade of Arts Ministry," opened Sunday, Oct. 25, in the church gallery at 240 Chalfonte Ave. in Grosse Pointe Farms. It runs through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027, according to the church's event listing.
A public reception is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. The evening will include light refreshments and live jazz from the Matthew Daher Trio.
Daher is a Detroit-based drummer, composer and improviser with more than 15 years of experience spanning jazz, ambient and electroacoustic music, according to his website. His credits include performances at the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and the Montréal International Jazz Festival.
The church launched its Arts Ministry in 2016 to provide a space for people inside and outside the congregation to connect with God and each other through the creative process, according to the church's arts page.
The program has grown to include a gallery with rotating exhibitions featuring local artists, a collaborative art studio for workshops and painting sessions, a theatre and a recording studio.
The church also partners with area arts organizations including the Fine Arts Society of Detroit and the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.
No church membership is required to attend. The church describes the show as open to "anyone who enjoys art," including neighbors, friends and first-time visitors.
Residents with questions can contact the church office at [email protected].
